Dr. Richard A. Shanty graduated from the University Of Maryland, Baltimore College Of Dental Surgery, in 1991 with a DDS (Doctor Of Dental Surgery). While in dental school, Dr. Shanty completed a clerkship in the diagnosis and management of oral lesions.
Prior to dental school, Dr. Shanty attended the University Of Baltimore, and Essex Community College majoring in Biology.
Dr. Shanty has been an active member of the community since opening his practice in 1993. He has volunteered at Head Start providing oral examinations to area children, and has provided dental education to students in the local elementary schools during dental health month.
Dr. Shanty has also volunteered at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, where he performed oral cancer screenings as part of a comprehensive cancer screening program.
Over the years, he has been involved in various youth sports organizations in Kittanning and Ford City. He also served as president of the Ford City Basketball Boosters during the 2011-2012 season. He currently sponsors local children's athletic programs.
Dr. Shanty was a ten year member of the Manor Township Lions Club, and is an active member of Christ Prince of Peace Parish where he serves as an usher.
Dr. Shanty is also a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, and Western Pennsylvania Dental Association.
He and his staff stay current in dental techniques and advances by regularly attending continuing education, as well as maintaining current certification in Cardiopulomonary Resuscitation.
Dr. Shanty resides in Armstrong County with his wife and four sons.
